Same questions, asked of the tool you already have, the lighter one you nearly switched to, and this one.

SCROLL FOR PERCH →

Google Analytics 4, other lightweight analytics and Perch compared across eight questions. Scrolls horizontally on narrow screens.

PERCH — TERMINALTYPE help ↵
$ perch why Google Analytics is overkill for most sites. It answers ten thousand questions you never asked, from behind a banner your visitors resent. Perch answers the four you actually have, on one screen: who is here now, where they came from, what they read, and how long they stayed. No cookies. No banner. No 400 menus. Nothing to configure.
$

One line in. One number out.

Two steps, because there are two things to do. Everything else — the request, the counting, the part where a normal analytics tool asks you to name an event — happens without you.

01ON YOUR SITE

Paste one line.

One script tag before the closing head tag, on every page or in your layout file once. No tag manager, no container, no trigger to configure, no consent gate standing between a visitor and your page.

Read one number.

The first visitor lands and the count moves — not tomorrow morning, not after a processing window. It is the same screen everyone on your team already knows how to read, because there is only the one.

What actually leaves the browser.

One request per pageview, and this is the whole of it. Four keys, no identifier of any kind, nothing held back for a privacy page written in smaller type.

No response body, no redirect, no second request. If the ping fails, your page never hears about it.

Start free and stay there as long as it fits. Move up only when the traffic does — never because a number you need is behind a tier.

Every plan counts the same way, keeps the same screen and sets the same number of cookies. The tiers only change how much traffic you can throw at it.

Questions we actually get.

The six that come up most, answered properly. Anything else is one reply away — a person writes back, usually the same day.

How do you count a visitor with no cookie?

A hash of the IP, the user agent and a salt unique to your site, rotated every midnight UTC and held in memory only. It is enough to tell one session from two, and worthless the next day — which is the point.

Will ad blockers eat my numbers?

A few lists block anything filed under analytics, so expect to lose a small slice — smaller than the slice you lose to a consent banner. Serve the script from your own domain and most of it comes back.

Can I run it next to Google Analytics?

Yes, and most people do for a fortnight. The two scripts know nothing about each other. Your numbers will not match GA's exactly, because GA is counting after a banner and we are counting before one.

Do I still need a cookie banner?

Not for Perch — there is no cookie, no local storage and nothing that outlives the request, so there is nothing to ask permission for. Your other scripts are their own question, and we are not your lawyers.

Where does the data actually live?

Frankfurt or Virginia, picked at signup and never moved without telling you first. Aviary can run in a region you name, or on your own hardware.

What happens when I leave?

Take everything as CSV or through the API, then delete the account and it is gone the same day. There is no export tier, no retention hostage and no exit call to book.
